We asked influential friends of Tyde what their top 3 travel rituals are to reconnect with yourself whilst travelling.

Here's what they said...

1) I love to book a relaxing treatment at the hotel spa to really help myself decompress

2) I sample the hotel’s herbal teas before I go to bed – there’s something so calming about sitting in bed with a brew and catching up on a series!

3) Eating a nourishing breakfast, I’m not much of a breakfast eater at home but I love sampling all the fancy things hotels have to offer from exotic fruits and nuts to freshly made juices.

      1) No matter where I am, I try to carve out some time for my Pilates. It’s my way of realigning my spine after travel and checking back in with my body - movement is how I ground myself and reconnect mentally. If it’s a city break, I’ll end up doing a lot of walking so even 10 or 15 minutes will help to keep the aches away.

      2) I set a digital boundary when I am away. As a content creator it’s easy to fall into the trap of capturing and sharing when you are somewhere new and exciting - so I try to stick to photos only with no posting until the trip ends. This means I am much more present in the moment, and can re-live it all when I am back home.

3) I always travel with a few familiar products - skincare, a scent or a body oil that I use daily. They create a sense of ritual and help me feel centred and settled when I am somewhere new. I love the way a fragrance that you use while you’re away can transport you back to the holiday when you spray it back home.

1) As a family we travel constantly with our daughters, so trips alone are a rare gift during which I try to reconnect with the person I used to be and to live as she did for a while. This means that while I take everything at a slower pace, I want everything to be done to be as quick and as easily as possible, for maximum me-time. A ritual I learned during my fashion week travel years was to on arrival in the hotel room immediately hang dresses, shirts and suits on a rail in the bathroom as close as possible to the shower steam, leaving them there for the duration so that wrinkles would drop out during the stay, minimising any ironing.

2) I actually love long haul flights, as these have become the only times I get to slow down and be uncontactable, so on the plane I create a space in which to start the self-care rituals I aim to continue during the trip. This begins at the airport where I buy every current issue of monthly fashion glossy, and on board I create a (very) mini spa space and layer on products which are gentle and nourishing. Current favourites are the Superglow Serum and Rose Dew hydrating products from Cosmetics à la Carte- these products have a beautiful rose scent, evocative of my childhood in Cyprus where I grew up eating rose sorbets and smelling attar of roses on my Yiayia’s dressing table, so they are another re-connection to myself.

3) I try to take an energetic walk as soon as I arrive- hopefully that’s with shoes off on the sand or on grass for a grounding to the earth and a view of the sky to re-set the body clock- but even a jaunt around a hotel block gets the blood flowing after a flight.

1) I am very type A, I love to have my things in place so when I arrive at my destination:

  • Unpack and organise my belongings in my hotel room.

  • Make sure I have brought my supplements and mint tea bags. I love to bring my debloat tablets from JS Vitamins, probiotics and magnesium.

2) Walking, walking is the best! It helps me slow down and feel present in a new place. Amazing for lymphatic drainage, digestive system and clearing your mind. If I am by the sea,  I usually go early for a walk, dip and coffee.

3) I try to slow things down whenever I can. Life at home moves so fast, so I savour unhurried moments: coffee in bed, reading on the beach, or a glass of wine with a face mask on the balcony. It’s about being fully present, mindful, and grateful for exactly where I am.
