Following a young life growing up in Mauritius and developing a love for swimming everyday, founder Alicia Roundtree naturally had a passion to set up her own swimwear brand. She strives to help her community thrive in an ethical way, helping create a sustainable skilled workforce and supporting local artisans. The Alicia Swim brand offers unique prints in the most flattering shapes for you and your children to match.
With sustainability at the forefront, she wanted to ensure that she was giving back to the area. When you make a purchase on an Alicia Swim product you automatically contribute to sustaining marine life in the delicate ecosystems of the Indian Ocean. A portion of the profits are donated to the Mauritius Marine Conservations Society (MMCS). MMCS is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to providing education and conservation of the marine environment and its rich biodiversity around the island. They work to promote a sustainable management of the marine and coastal environment and campaigns to raise awareness about the island’s marine resources.
The swimwear fabric is made in Italy using Ecoynl, a high-quality technical yarn created from regenerated nylon. Sources for Econyl raw materials are fishing nets intercepted in coastal areas which would otherwise end up in landfill or endanger marine life.
The kimonos are made from a mix of cotton and silk and use 50% less water in the printing process. All are manufactured in Mauritius, the birthplace of the founder Alicia Roundtree. Supporting expert artisans, all pieces are cut, sewn and finished by the hands of women working on a fair-trade basis.
